Weeks 4-5: Fairy Tales Unit
- watch part of a fairy tale movie (Shrek)
- read some fairy tales by the Brothers Grimm
- read an article defining the term “fairy tale”
- read some folk tales from Don’t Count Your Chickens
- discuss fairy tale rules
- write a Group Fairy Tale
- spend a day outside reading
- read other students’ fairy tales
Weeks 6-7: “What is literature?” & Great Books
- discuss the definition of literature
- discuss Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress
- view portion of Dead Poets Society (2 days)
- read excerpts from online classic books
- create web site discussing classic books
Week 8: Censorship & Banned Books Week
- view Field of Dreams (3 days)
- discuss Field of Dreams
- discuss censorship
Week 9: Midterm Examination & Women’s Film Pick

Week 10: Identity Crisis

Week 11: Work on Paper about Your Novel
