For Use with Netscape Composer
Adding hyperlinks to your web page is very easy! Just follow the steps below:
- Type the word or phrase you want to use as a link. For example:
- Indiana University of Pennsylvania
- Press Enter (this step saves some hassles later)
- Highlight the word or phrase you just typed.
- Click on the Link button. It looks like a piece of white metal chain. (Alternatively, you can select Link from the Insert menu.)
- Type the full internet address in the Link to: box. You must type the complete address including the http:// and every letter and symbol in the address must be accurate or the link will not work. Creating links is a very precise process. The address you type should look like similar to the example below:
- http://www.iup.edu
- Click OK.
- Your word should now be underlined and it’s color should change to match one of your link colors.
Now when people click on the link, they will automatically go to the web site address you entered.
Note: Your link won’t work until you view it on the Internet. Right now you are still just in your web page editor. To view your new link, save your file and then go to your web page (http://www.people.iup.edu/xxxx where xxxx is your IUP username).
Tip
You can save yourself some typing by copying link addresses from the Address bar in your web browser. This is an especially useful trick for handling those really long web addresses that are hard to type correctly:
- Click in the Address bar and highlight the address.
- Right Click your mouse button and choose Copy.
- Now go back into Netscape Composer and when you get to the step above for typing the web address, Right Click again and select Paste.
- The full, long, complicated web address should now appear in the Link to: area.
