When you think of tourism in Africa do you think of East Africa, especially big game safaris in Kenya and Tanzania? Most people do. What you and other potential visitors probably don’t realize is that West Africa has treasures and wonders to equal, if not surpass, anything on the African continent. Not only treasures and wonders, but mystery and adventure can be found in one country in particular–Mali, the land that is reached by the road to Timbuktu.

He’s kind of cute, so you go, picking up a couple of six packs along the way. The afternoon passes, and it’s been fun. But now it’s time to go home, and your date’s had one too many. You’re feelin’ kind of buzzed yourself. What d’ya do?

In the last year, interest in preparing America for its high-tech future has exploded. The current scenario predicts that we will be a huge information society, and the current generation of youngsters will need to be perfectly at ease using computers. School districts are now scrambling to meet this need by adding computer courses to their curriculum. They’re trying to make as many students as possible “computer literate.” One of the major problems, however, is that too often the teachers in these schools have little training or experience with computers and certainly do not feel at ease themselves.

An inescapable fact of the world energy situation today is that fossil fuel resources are finite, and continued reliance on coal, gas, and oil for generating electricity is not viable. However, meeting future electricity needs requires raising public awareness about finding alternate options. The most important characteristics of these options will be flexibility, cost, and low risk. Three programs currently under investigation are a broader energy information program, cogeneration and hydroelectric power production, and small renewable power production.
