I will list the most current assignment (or assignments) near the beginning of this page.

Please also note that I do occasionally fall behind in updating this page. It is therefore highly important that you attend class regularly in order to get the most current assignments which I always discuss at the end of each class session.

Assignment A: Gather Web Home Page Materials
due for Sep. 25

For our next class we will be creating Teacher Web Home Pages. The best teacher pages usually include a variety of personally created materials. So please bring as many of the following items as you can for next time. You should bring these in digital form (either saved on a USB or emailed to yourself).

Required

  • an interesting quote (some words to live by)
  • a digital picture of yourself (you are welcome to bring as many pictures as you like)

Optional

  • your teaching philosophy statement (if you have one)
  • a sample paper you’ve written
  • any other sample documents you might wish to share with people (perhaps a course syllabus or an interesting course assignment)
  • your curriculum vita
  • Again, while all of these items are useful to post on your home page, if you don’t have a few of them, that’s fine too. Bring whatever you can get your hands on by next Day.

Assignment B: Bring an Important Object to Class
due for Sep. 25
Go home and find an object that is important to you. The object can have sentimental value, the object might evoke powerful memories, or the object might have been given to you by someone important to you. Alternatively, the object might strike you as important but you might not be sure why. Trust whatever instincts guide you and pick that object and bring it to our next class meeting.

A smaller, portable object probably works best for this project. However, if you must have a big object, that is ok too. If you can carry the big object with you, then please bring it to class. If the object is too big to transport (maybe you have a favorite arm chair), then take a picture of the object and bring that with you.

Finally, if the object you want to write about is not within reach, perhaps it is at another home or with someone else, either try to get a picture of the object if you can or, instead, you will have to work from your memories of the object.

Being able to hold the object in your hand can be very important to this project, but you can let go of that need if the object you want to work with is important but unavailable. That will be up to you.

  • Come in a costume (or at least a cool looking t-shirt!)
