Task Overview
This task will help you explore the types of theoretical frameworks being developed by the authors of the readings on literacy in our course packet.
Part I
Create a group literacy web page. Start it off by discussing these two questions:
- What is literacy?
- What is illiteracy?
- What are the characteristics of a literate person?
Base your definition on the literacy narratives you group members wrote as well as the articles from the course packet.
Try to write a definition which is about a 1/2 page long.
Part II
Then select two articles from the readings you did for today. For each of your authors, answer the questions below. Add your answers to your group literacy page:
1. Describe the author’s understanding of “literacy.”
2. Give a label to this author’s framework for literacy.
Write about a 1/2 page for each author.
Part III
Now thinking broadly, discuss some of the pedagogical implications of your definition. Write about a 1/2 page to answer this part.
Part IV
Once you have your literacy page created, link it to each of your group members’ home pages.
