Going to the Movies
Probably the biggest movie event of the summer will be Superman Returns. The film industry has also had a major impact on the public’s view of comic books and superheroes. So it only makes sense that we ought to go see Superman Returns as a class.
However, the film is 2 1/2 hours and of course will cost $7 or so to see. So while I think it would be great to share this viewing event with you, I’m going to make it an optional activity; we won’t hold a formal discussion of Superman Returns as part of the class, though certainly it might enter as a side issue into our final class discussions and perhaps into your papers. I DO want you to think of this as a chance to go beyond the school routine of just going to class. Hopefully we can sit down over a cup of coffee or something afterwards and chat about the film.
With that in mind, I’d like to plan a viewing of the film which will maximize participation, even though I know no time is likely to be perfect for everyone. We’ll just do the best we can.
