An Uncanny Invitation
The mutant world has been thrown into chaos following BeneTech Laboratories’ announcement that it has developed a cure for the “mutant strain disease.” At Charles Xavier’s School for Gifted Mutants, a large number of students have left the school, presumably to seek out the cure. Rumors have also begun to circulate the Professor Hank “Beast” McCoy may also have taken the cure serum. The school maintains, however, that Professor McCoy is simply on academic leave pursuing a research project.
All this upheaval, however, has created some new opportunities to join Xavier’s school. Professor Scott Summers has circulated word that the school is interested in enrolling new students and also hiring some new faculty members. In order to apply to the school, you must write a letter of application following the guidelines below:
Type of Application
First off, you must specify whether you are applying to be a student at the school or a teacher. In both cases you must argue persuasively for why you should be selected for admission/hiring.
Mutant Ability
You can’t be admitted to the school without possessing some sort of mutant ability. Describe what mutant ability or abilities you possess. Then explain why you think the school would be interested in these abilities.
Background
Being a mutant often makes for a difficult life. Explain how old you are and what some of your key experiences have been as a mutant. What have you learned from your experiences that might prove useful to the school.
Views on “The Cure”
Xavier’s School has not adopted an official position on the so-called mutant cure. However, all applicants are required to discuss their views about the cure and how they feel the school should respond to this situation.
Rationale
Please conclude your application letter by explaining why you want to join the school. How will you benefit from joining the school as a student or faculty member? How will the school benefit from your presence?
