Agenda Items
1. IUP DUO Authentication Required for Spring 2022/Security Drills
- Required for Spring 2022
- Must be done by mid December
- One campus got hacked and had to shut down
- This is a mandate that is for our protection
- If you don’t wish to use your phone, you can request a keychain fob
- Authentication also works with newer Apple watches
- It can be set to last for 1 day but usually must be done each time you are on a new computer/device
- There will also be security drills coming in the spring, which are like virtual fire drills (they are being required by PASSHE)
2. Winter Schedule and Rotation
- Both uploaded to MS Teams in the appropriate Schedules folder
- As full as we could get the courses
- Some students still won’t take winter courses
- A couple final courses still be changed in MyIUP but the Teams schedule is up-to-date
3. Spring 2022
- Two people will be on leave in Spring 2022
- The majors courses have been reassigned
- Chauna Craig will serve as Assistant Chair for Spring 2022 since she is already experienced
- There will likely be up to 6 courses available
- Administration will be invited any eligible retrenched faculty to teach these courses; We would then vote on these people before the President makes a final decision
- If no retrenched faculty take the courses, then administration would work to hire Temporary Faculty or possibly Teaching Associates following our established department policies
- Overloads might be a possibility, but that’s less likely
3. Student Workers Available for Projects
- Isis will be student teaching in the spring
- Devan should be returning
- We may have another student worker or two
- All the student workers can help with scanning and other projects
4. Proposed English B.A. Curriculum Revision Timeline
- Dec. 7 Tue. Meeting to discuss thoughts and questions about the Proposed BA Curriculum Revision (see the link below):
- Dec. 23 Thursday–Deadline for making written comments
- January 2022–BA Revision Subcommittee Meeting (TBD)
- The subcommittee will review the department meeting feedback and other written feedback and make any needed revisions to the proposal
- The subcommittee members are Dan Weinstein, Heather Powers, and John Branscum (Emily Wender will be on sabbatical and John Marsden will be on leave)
- My apologies for mistakenly thinking Chauna Craig was on the subcommittee
- The subcommittee will send the revised proposal to the department and upload it to MS Teams after it meets
- January 24 Monday (11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.)—Zoom Department Meeting
- I want us to have a second department meeting to discuss the revision. I’m scheduling this meeting well in advance and in the common hour meeting slot, so you can plan to attend.
- January 26 Wednesday-January 28 Friday—Qualtrics Vote on Proposed BA Curriculum Revision
- Brian Carpenter and Tanya Heflin will schedule a simple vote To Approve/To Not Approve the English BA Proposed Curriculum Revision
- While we have scheduled all votes to include on contract times, I do recognize Chauna’s very valid concern that we need to do our best to protect weekend time when people may not be checking email as much. We will continue to schedule votes.
- February 2022—If approved, revision submitted to IUP Curriculum Approval Process
- Fall 2022—If approved, new curriculum begins
- Continuing students would be given the option to continue with the old curriculum or switch to the new one
