On your first night out in your new superhero guise, you hear a call for help. You hurry to the sound and find an old woman on the ground. A man is running down the street away from her carrying her purse. Using your super powers, you quickly knock out the thief and return the purse. The old woman thanks you and you tell her to call the police, then quickly leave before she can take your picture.
You return to your apartment, tired but exhilarated. When you turn on the light, you gasp. There, sitting in your favorite chair, is a tall man in a black sport coat. Although it is night out, he is wearing a pair of dark sunglasses.
“Good evening,” he says, “I’m Agent Pagnucci of S.H.I.E.L.D.”
“Nice job on returning Mrs. Anderson’s purse.”
“You know about that?” you ask, startled.
“Of course,” says Agent Pagnucci. “We monitor everything through people’s cellphones. That’s why we invented the iPhone. But I’m afraid we can’t let you squander your powers catching purse snatchers. The galaxy needs your help.”
“It does?” you ask somewhat skeptically.
“Yes, we need you in the Avengers.”
“The Avengers? Really? Me?” You can’t believe your ears.
“Yes, that’s right. You’ve heard of the Avengers, right? Captain America? Thor? Iron Man?”

“Of course I’ve heard of them,” you say. “They’re the greatest superhero team of all time.”
“That’s right,” says Agent Pagnucci. “And they need your help. I have a mission for you. The Kree and the Skrulls are engaged in an intergalactic war, and we need your help to save a bunch of innocent people on the planet Tarnax.”
“Um, that sounds a bit out of my league,” you say.
“Don’t worry,” says Agent Pagnucci. “You were chosen for a reason. And Iron Man will be coming along to help you.
“That’s right, kid,” you hear someone say from your T.V. room. You are shocked to see Tony Stark sitting on your couch.

“Come on,” says Stark. “We gotta leave now.”
“What? Right now?” you cry. “I can’t leave now.”
“It’s a long trip to get to Tarnax,” Agent Pagnucci says. “We have to get going.”
“But I need to tell people I’m leaving,” you say.
Agent Pagnucci hands you a sheet of paper. “Here,” he says. “You can write a letter, and we will send it to your closest friend. But hurry it up. Spaceship fuel ain’t cheap.”
You think about protesting, but Agent Pagnucci doesn’t look like he will take no for an answer. So you sit down at your desk and begin to write your letter.
